ABSTRACT

Adolescent dating violence (ADV) is a public health concern which carries with it a substantial disease burden. Consequences of ADV span physical and mental health and also lead to adult relationship difficulties, disrupted education and poor lifetime attainment. Primary prevention programmes offered to schoolchildren typically elicit modest effects. Consequently, there may be some potential in developing alternative and innovative methods of primary prevention. Drawing on the EU-funded Changing Attitudes Towards Dating Violence in Adolescence (CAVA) project this chapter examines the potential of using computer technology, and, more specifically, digital or ‘serious’ games, in the development of primary prevention approaches.
