ABSTRACT

This chapter explores the model of spiral dynamics as a way of understanding the different levels of awareness across the cultures in South Africa, and how learning is impacted. Using this awareness, the author describes how Transactional Analysis (TA) theory translates to practice in her work. Beck and Linscott describe Graves six conditions for change: describes an unhealthy cultural Parent as: As people read these characteristics in the light of the spiral dynamics model, they can recognize Drego's unhealthy cultural Parent characteristics describing first tier thinkers. She will discuss some practical implications using some of the TA models. She worked with an organization that engages with community health care workers to provide them with tools for self-awareness and self-care. Community care workers earn a very low stipend, and have no official standing or stability in the work that they do. Their attitude was one of hopelessness and wanting others to change things for them.
