ABSTRACT

What’s the first image that comes to mind when you hear the

term “online course?” If you ask 10 people this question, you

may get 10 different answers. To some, the term describes a

self-paced online tutorial. Others think of a collaborative

experience in which teachers and students interact online over

a semester. Still others will describe courses in which 100,000

people engage with free learning resources online. There are

so many different models and variations of online courses that

it can be difficult to have a meaningful discussion about best

practices within this growing industry. But that’s just what we

intend to do.
