ABSTRACT
This article attempts to describe the pronunciation such as is produced by a native speaker of a North German variety of German when aiming at RP as a target language. By North German variety of German I understand a High German influenced by a Low German substrate, the focus being on the area of Hamburg. This pronunciation will hereafter be called 'Missingsch'.
