ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The principal purpose of the book is to provide an elaboration and critical evaluation of some issues and their implications not just for the Indian Ocean region. It aims to elaborate and evaluate associated meanings of the energy security concept. The book discusses some of the concrete Indian Ocean energy security policy issues for example, transportation. It presents case studies of some of the principal stakeholders in Indian Ocean energy security with a view to increase understanding of their regional goals and strategies. The book reviews different strategies possessed by the regional states to the problem of energy insecurity. It examines a potential for cooperation and conflict in the Gulf in the context of maximizing energy security. Indian Ocean regional governments will increasingly develop a range of policies to monitor and enhance national energy security.
