ABSTRACT
Rabbi David Mevorach Seidenberg points out that Jewish law defines rights in terms of obligations that people have to any others who have moral standing, human or nonhuman. It is clear in the Torah that animals have moral status. The Torah maintains that domestic and wild animals live for their own sake and not just for ours. The value of human beings comes from the significance of their relationships.
