Anna Merz describes how she raised Samia, a female black rhino abandoned by her mother. The tiny baby rhino slept in her bed. When Samia matured and integrated with wild rhinos, she protected Merz in dangerous situations and returned to visit with her daily. Merz’s story is so evocative that the reader grieves with her at the tragic death of Samia and her baby.
