ABSTRACT

Most private sector organizations, if successful, face the positive prospect of starting up a new facility, plant, or store. This is a positive outcome of success and growth in the business. The requirements for leaders and the selection methods used to identify those who are the most likely to excel in these demanding roles must keep up with the rapid change in business. The selection of the first leaders to come on board in a new facility is especially critical, as they play multiple roles early in the start-up and set the right tone for the desired culture. To make the best possible entry- and mid-level leadership decisions, many organizations turn to various forms of assessment. The delayering of organizations has diminished the number of opportunities people have to develop and practice their leadership skills. It is clear that private organizations are not all in the same place when it comes to improving the performance of leaders.
