ABSTRACT

Leadership is under scrutiny. As a practice and as a concept it is being subjected to rigorous forms of deconstruction that can be associated with a form of crisis of and in leadership. In this chapter we consider the epistemic and theoretical gaps/silences in the leadership field and proffer an analysis which contemplates the relationship between culture and the empirical sites of and for leadership inquiry and scholarship. We reflect upon the lessons to be learnt about leadership practices and research when culture becomes the lens through which deliberations of leadership quality are undertaken.
