ABSTRACT

This chapter examines how Corporate Real Estate Asset Management (CREAM) needs to understand and embrace the Paradigm of an organisation if it is to achieve strategic alignment. This awareness is also required to be successful in the change management process that is frequently required to underpin enhancements in performance and productivity. The corporate real estate (CRE) manager needs to establish how an organisation actually works and understand the beliefs and values espoused by the client organisation, so that the real estate and workplace solutions can support and enhance the culture of the organisation or 'organisational DNA'. From the perspective an organisational paradigm may be defined as the meta-rules, or conceptual framework, and the unquestioned assumptions that shape an organisation's beliefs, values, decisions and operations. In modern organisations the business paradigm is radically changing, with less control, more autonomy and empowerment and an increasingly entrepreneurial approach.
