ABSTRACT

This chapter examines e-business technologies that are appropriate for Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) and Micro organisations in construction. It reports from a developing country case of the Ghananian construction industry to demonstrate the importance of e-business within their industry and for populating its use among small businesses. The benefits of using the Internet technology to conduct business has been well noted and researched, the emergence of the Internet technology has far-reaching ramifications on the way business is conducted. This act of conducting business using the Internet technology in conjunction with Information and Commmunication Technology (ICT) infrastructure can be referred to as electronic business and in some research documentations it also referred to as electronic commerce. The discussion shows that, adopters of e-business technology can benefit from reduced transaction costs, increase transaction speed and reliability, and extract maximum value from transactions in their value chains.
