ABSTRACT

This chapter explains the reflexive learning opportunities of a series of monthly cross-professional group supervision conversations that explored the impact of their work on the members of the team. Cross-professional supervision is where the supervisor is not trained in the same profession as the supervisee and facilitates a learning environment for the supervisee informed by philosophies of critical reflexivity and transformational learning. The Professional Doctorate is a particular type of research journey and this chapter is a record of authors own progress through it. Trauma therapists are themselves equally in need of opportunities, without fear of judgement, for symptom validation, debriefing and in some cases therapy, if they are to draw meaning out of their experience and offer therapeutic containment to their clients. This chapter has reported on a professional doctorate journey by way of the group supervision experience of the multidisciplinary trauma resource team designed as a participative inquiry.
