ABSTRACT

Community colleges often pride themselves on being open access institutions, which provide the opportunity to attend higher education. The unique nature of community colleges necessitates a strong network of support between Academic Affairs and Student Affairs. As Ozaki, Hornak and Lunceford (2014) note, “the demographics of students entering community colleges shows that higher percentages of these student come from schools that are less likely to academically prepare students for higher education, have lower socio-economic backgrounds, have parents with lower education levels, and require more developmental coursework” (p. 79). They note the absolute necessity of collaboration between Student and Academic Affairs in order for all students to achieve success.
