ABSTRACT

This chapter deals with wine tourism development. It aims to fill gaps in the understanding of disparities that occur between two wine regions namely Champagne and Tuscany. Wine tourism is usually defined by the meeting between wine and tourism sectors. The Great Wine Capitals Global Network (GWCGN) is also interesting because it allows winery comparisons between and within Old and New World wine cities. Agritourism in Tuscany is well structured and developed. Tuscany is the Italian region in which agritourism generates most permanent contract and uses less family labour. In each region a large and predominant wine-producing area is recognised by a Protected Denomination of Origin (PDO) Champagne and Chianti. The chapter summarizes that, in the Champagne region, tourism is highly focussed on wine resource, but the joint promotion of wine and local heritages is not usual or is even difficult.
