ABSTRACT
India is an emerging economy and promises high growth rates, even against the backdrop of global economic recession. However, with a population of 1.2 billion it is faced with numerous problems of poverty. With a Human Development Index of 0.547 it occupies the 135th position worldwide, which proves the point that its scarce resources have to be invested heavily in social welfare.
