ABSTRACT

The refugees arrive in France with an asylum visa or are admitted on humanitarian grounds. They are directed towards one of the fi ve home institutions offering accommodation or housing. These operators are, however, present only in some parts of the country: Belfort, Les Deux Sevres, Haute Loire, the Isle of France, the Rhone, the Atlantic Pyrenees. The speed of rehousing and the support by the General Councils (elected body of the ‘Département’) remains variable from one department to another.
