ABSTRACT
The case The Delhi gang rape case on 16 December 2012 involved a rape and a fatal assault. The incident happened when a 23-year-old girl, a physiotherapy intern, Jyoti Singh Pandey, boarded a bus at 8:30 p.m. with a male friend, after watching a movie. This was an off-duty private bus, with six men on board – fi ve adults and a juvenile. The men beat the friend and each one raped the woman in turn, before assaulting her viciously with an iron instrument which damaged all her internal organs. By the time the police picked her up and took her to hospital she had bled profusely. After being hospitalised for 13 days, she was transferred to a hospital in Singapore for emergency treatment, but died from her injuries two days later.
