ABSTRACT

In 2015 a piece of news from Shenzhen drew wide public attention across China; a migrant worker in domestic service suffered serious abuse from her employer, she was unlawfully detained and had been beaten and intimidated for more than two months. Fortunately, she received aid from a social service agency. Social workers from the agency made arrangements for support and therapy, helped her to obtain compensation, and ensured her abusive employer went to prison in the end (Wang 2015). This event not only exposes serious abuses experienced by domestic migrant workers (DMW) but also shows how social work can help in a professional way.
