Promoting yourself is essential in the music business regardless of the genre of music. The relevance of social media for the classical musician is high. It helps to create a visible profile and, managed in the right way, can be a huge business asset. Classical music is part of the music industry, which itself builds into the creative industries (CIs). Popularising classical music is not a new phenomenon; one of the most successful series of recordings that made classical music reach a wider audience occurred in the 1980s. Classical music also features on television, transmitted on either BBC2, so it benefits from the budgets allocated to both those networks.
