ABSTRACT
This chapter considers the case of a public science organization that builds on multiple communities, reaching outside the organization, for internal development of its generic technology and related applications. We describe the internal organizational structures and processes that facilitate knowledge differentiation and integration within the organization, and how community involvement varies according to the maturity of the community.
