ABSTRACT

This chapter explains the extent to which constructivist career practitioners may integrate Information and communications technology (ICT) into their practice will depend on a number of factors. It argues that constructivist career counselling can be delivered online, or at least elements, in much the same way that any theoretically informed interventions to career practice can be delivered remotely. The chapter describes the constructivism in online career counselling, the potential for the integration of online technologies into practice that should be regarded as generic, irrespective of the particular theoretical underpinning of any specific approach. It explores the meaning of online practice for career counselling and constructivist career counselling; considers some of the evidence on the current state of play regarding ICT and practice, including facilitators and barriers to integrating ICT into practice; identifies some implications for constructivist career counselling of online delivery; and reflects upon the need for the closer integration of career theory with online practice.
