ABSTRACT

Budapest is a city known for its spas, which take advantage of its numerous thermal springs. This spa heritage is conjured up for many by the glorious architectural exuberance of the neobaroque Széchenyi Baths and the Seccession-style Gellért Hotel and Baths, as well as Turkish examples such as the Rudás and Király baths, dating back to the time of the Ottoman occupation. Yet it has a far older story to tell, which reaches back to the Stone Age.
