ABSTRACT

This chapter builds on the conceptualisations set out in Chapter 3 and aims to offer exemplification of practical and ethically grounded assessment and evaluation methods and processes which may be used to support a participatory pedagogy. As set out in Chapter 3, we are seeking participatory methods for evidence and information gathering (assessment) to enable critical reflection and appraisal (evaluation) of what is working, how it is working and what the impact is. The aim is to establish rigorous, systematically collected, practice based evidence which is based upon daily life in real world, early childhood settings over time. The methods presented are designed to document and assess pedagogic practice and its impact with the intention of reflecting critically on its power to transform learning and development for the children and adults involved.
