      ABSTRACT

This chapter examines attitudes and behaviors of students in face-to-face versus interactive videoconferencing (IVC) classrooms stems in part from a desire to understand the students perspectives toward this new technology so as to provide more effective instruction. Distance education through means such as IVC is an emerging educational delivery system that many instructors do not have a history of experiencing as students. The preference for the distance sites does not take away much from the face-to-face class, as during small-group discussion time teacher monitor their groups and interact with them. Most instructors today were students of traditional face-to-face classrooms and, as such, have a lifetime of experience to draw on in the workings of a traditional classroom but not for IVC settings. If a question is presented to a class with both a face-to-face and an IVC section, students in the face-to-face section will most often answer prior to IVC students.
