ABSTRACT

African immigrants in the USA experience economic challenges in the form of poverty and underemployment (Reed, Andrzejewski, & Strumbos, 2010; United States Census Bureau, 2010). Roughly 21% of African immigrants in the USA live at or below the poverty line (United States Census Bureau, 2010). Limited English language proficiency and education restrict many African immigrants to low-paying, unskilled jobs (Arthur, 2000; Reed et al., 2010).
