ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book explores the notion of pedagogy as story in landscape. Pullenvale Environmental Education Centre is situated in an outer suburban area of Brisbane. The book describes the environmental education centre via a major freeway from Brisbane and exited on a small road that eventually meandered along the beach front. The location of the environmental education centres varied from coastal intertidal zones and mangrove forests to a cloud rainforest and urban-fringe forest remnants. The international scholars and advocates came to Australia to present workshops or to keynote conferences and some of them visited the environmental education centres. The research of Ballantyne and Packer brought together key stakeholders – senior officers from the Department of Education, the research team and the principals and staff from the centres.
