ABSTRACT
Nevertheless, the use of postmemory in explorations of the past has been controversial, because it differs from traditional historical techniques based purely on “hard” evidence. Similar strategies-without the digital and archival component-are evident at Elmina Castle and the Holocaust memorial under Milan’s train station, sites dedicated to memory and suffering, where the emotive significance is especially important to audiences.
