ABSTRACT
The Sochi Winter Olympics and Winter Paralympics, which took place in February/March 2014, made the news worldwide as the most expensive events in history. While the initial bid’s cost estimate for the Games was in the range of US$11 billion, the final bill skyrocketed to US$50 billion. Much of this cost has been borne by the federal budget, state-owned corporations and state-underwritten loans. 2
