ABSTRACT
Elinor Ostrom’s Journal of Economic Perspectives article (Ostrom, 2000) achieved exactly what one would hope for a review article. It established a clear set of findings, it challenged theorists and it suggested several new avenues for research. Since publication, the article has been important for the laboratory experimental community that has pressed ahead on many of the new topics Ostrom suggested. In this commentary I mention pockets of new research that were influenced by the article and I suggest several areas of research that are promising.
