ABSTRACT

This chapter targeted ten individuals who have received world-renowned awards in the fields of STEM, portrayed in detail their childhood experiences through interviews and analysed the various factors that draw an individual to develop an interest in STEM. Among these research studies, international comparisons of the results of the Program for International Student Assessment (PISA) have indicated a decline in the level of academic achievement of the students, generating a heightened sense of crisis regarding the same. These international comparisons were conducted by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), which targets the comprehensive academic achievement of 15-year-olds in 41 countries. By investigating STEM instruction from the perspective of talent, it is possible to predict a result of STEM instruction. The chapter clarified that expertise in the fields of STEM develops through one's accumulation of personal experience in which one perceives the fields' appeal through opportunities that one has in his/her environment.
