ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the author describes his grandfather's love affair with the Brule River in general and portrays his fondness for fishing in particular. Working with his grandfather's photographs and book, he have surveyed the consumption experiences associated with the secret place and have developed a list of what he believe are the ten key themes that characterize his most vivid subjective personal introspection (SPI) based Arthur Tenney Holbrook (ATH) inspired recollections of river related consumer behavior. The breathtaking natural beauty of the river is an aspect of the Brule retroscape that shines forth in glorious color on ATH's Kodachrome slides but that proves more elusive in the black and white photos under consideration. Another consumption experience found ubiquitously and insistently in recollections of Life on the Brule River involves the pervasive sense not of taking pictures, not of viewing images, but of being photographed.
