The Logic of Research Design: Experiments and Quasi-Experiments

While some political inquiry is designed to identify opportunities for future research, or simply to gather data or design a measure, the most ambitious political research seeks to explain something. Such research involves the construction and testing of hypotheses via carefully established procedures, as discussed in chapter 1. Our focus here, and throughout most of this book, will be on this type of research.
