ABSTRACT
Algeria, Libya, Tunisia, and Morocco—what is known in Arabic as the Maghreb—have been largely oriented toward Europe economically, politically, and culturally. In fact, the four fall into two very different pairs, each of which has followed broadly similar economic paths, though of course with unique features in each country.
