ABSTRACT

Imazighen, the ethnic group more commonly referred to as Berbers, are made up of more than 11 million people spread throughout North Africa, the Sahara Desert, and West Africa. This area includes the countries of Egypt, Libya, Tunisia, Mauritania, Niger, Mali, and Burkina Faso, with large concentrations in Algeria and Morocco, where Imazighen represent some 20 percent (7 million) and 40 percent (14 million) of the population, respectively.
