ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the idea that, rather than logical or rational strategies it is the wealth of emotional strategies inherent in borderline personality disorder (BPD) that are the mark of true Machiavellianism. It highlights some of what people know about Machiavellians through discussion and exploration of aspects of clinical and subclinical borderline personality disorder. Machiavellian, a person who is superficially charming and friendly but is capable of extraordinary acts of deceit for control or personal gain. A theory of Machiavellianism related to pathological leaders, the heart of organizational evil of virtually all forms that is difficult to develop. Moreover, scientific advances to salient areas, such as genetics and neurochemistry and intriguing results from advancing fields, such as that of medical imaging are not connected with the study of aberrant leaders, a critical aspect in understanding organizational evil. In the age of global terrorism, BPD researchers are advised to re-establish work in the field.
