ABSTRACT

Organizations need to develop a priority to address the evil use of power. Organizational scholars seem to have a fascination with studying bad behaviour by managers. They argue that there is so much bad, evil, dysfunctional behaviour in organizations that we would be remiss as scientists if they failed to address such behaviour. If there is an increase in dark side behaviour, it may be a function of organizations tendency to attract, select, and retain impaired managers, in whom impairment speaks to their dysfunctional nature in their psychological, cognitive, and behavioural characteristics. These characteristics can derive from personality disorders or learning disabilities such as general personality disorders or learning disabilities, borderline personality disorder, bipolar disorder, diminished learning capacity and dementia, obsessive-compulsive behaviour and destructive/dysfunctional employees. Hence, the first foundation of evil involves the shadow energy, and the second foundation involves hostile powers outside of the human community.
