ABSTRACT
In the Guomindang (GMD)-ruled areas, there are many who cannot carry out the policy of selecting and concealing elite cadres, lying in long-term ambush, accumulating strength, and waiting for opportunity, due to their underestimation of the GMD's anti-Communist policy. The GMD-ruled areas and the anti-Japanese base areas, there were those who stress alliance to the exclusion of combat, overestimated the GMD's anti-Japanese wishes, and hence blurred the difference in principle between the GMD and the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). They renounced the policy of independence and autonomy within the United Front, and accommodated themselves to the big landlords, big bourgeoisie, and the GMD. In effect, they willingly tied their own hands, and did not dare to expand the anti-Japanese revolutionary forces nor firmly struggle against the GMD's policy of opposing and restricting the Communist Party. However, since the winter of 1939, an ultra-Left tendency has occurred as a result of the conflict between the GMD's anti-Communist policy and our self-defense.
