ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the human rights critique that appeared in the official media, which it tries to refute point by point. It explains that Marxism is not opposed to the equal rights idea but that its concept of equality is different from that of the bourgeoisie, since it aims at the elimination of classes and the private ownership system. The chapter analyses the bourgeois concept of human rights, acknowledge it, but the idea behind it, that people are born equal and enjoy equal rights, is defended as a progressive and valid. Human rights are a slogan used several hundred years ago by the bourgeoisie to oppose feudal autocracy. This chapter talks about the strong and uncompromising critique of the excesses committed during the Cultural Revolution, putting the blame on the lack of respect for the constitution. It also describes the current political system shortcomings, and worries about the renewed critique against calls for democracy and rights within the political leadership.
