ABSTRACT

Zhang Wenxian, a legal scholar at Jilin University, has been an important contributor to academic discussion of human rights throughout the 1990s. He has never denied the existence of collective human rights in the international law realm. In Chinese Legal Studies, Comrade Lu Deshan's article "Another Discussion of the Subject of Human Rights" appeared. He explains that in domestic law area, the concept of collective human rights has not yet been publicly introduced, but in international law, collective human rights are an indispensable concept. The concept of collective human rights first appeared in international law as a weapon for Third World nations in the battle against imperialism, colonialism, and hegemonism for the rights to racial equality, national self-determination, and control of natural resources, development, and peace. The subjects of collective human rights are primarily sovereign states, nationalities, and a people considered as a whole.
