Thinking about a System and Systems thinking in Engineering

“System” is a concept that is central to learning and teaching engineering. In engineering analysis courses, students’ thinking is focused on a system that they wish to model mathematically in order to understand its behavior (i.e., students are thinking about a system). A major focus of analysis courses is having students learn to use well-established procedural knowledge.
