Dr. Fletcher examines Australian-Taiwanese relations by highlighting Australia’s tightrope-act policies toward Taiwan and the People’s Republic of China (PRC). He points out that although Taiwan’s economic importance necessitates its inclusion in international organizations, most countries in the end still defer to pressures from mainland China to deny Taiwan official recognition as a state.
