The Island Frontier of the Ch'ing, 1684–1780

Shih Lang, the victorious Ch’ing admiral, moved quickly to consolidate his control over Taiwan. The peaceful surrender of the Ch’eng-kung regime meant that there was no organized resistance to the Ch’ing takeover. The new government did, nevertheless, have to expend considerable effort rounding up unruly remnant soldiers and Cheng deserters. ¹
