ABSTRACT

This is the lead article among several dealing with the motivation to manage of human resource managers (previously known as personnel and industrial relations managers or some other combination of those terms, including employment managers). It was published initially in the Journal of Applied Psychology (Miner 1976a). Other articles of this genre include Miner and Miner (1976) and Miner (1979a) dealing with success relationships and Miner (1976b) dealing with alternative measures of managerial orientation. The results from all of these studies are considered in the following.
