ABSTRACT

The label control theory emerges often in organizational behavior, typically with very different meanings and with reference to theories that have little in common. The theory referred to here is the product of Arnold Tannenbaum, came out of the University of Michigan, and has been operationalized using the control graph method. In particular, this theory should not be confused with a “control theory” based on the tenets of cybernetics that carries the same name but has little to do with Tannenbaum’s views (Vancouver and Putka 2000).
