ABSTRACT

This chapter gives an overview of the five elements comprising effective leadership in the emerging century's new business paradigm. By engaging people's passion in positive and constructive change, leadership enables people, organizations, and society to address and transcend the tensions, challenges, constraints, and pressures posed by a rapidly shifting, constantly changing, and information-sensitive world. The model of "Engaging People's Passion" provides a coherent lens through which we can look at the factors necessary for effective leadership in the postindustrial age, by showing how leadership must encompass a balance between vision and the fundamental truth, inspiring core values, an engaging and inclusive style, emotional intelligence competencies, and courage. Five elements comprise the core leadership message to make it compelling in engaging people's passion. They are: a positive vision of the future, inspiring core values, an engaging and inclusive leadership style, emotional intelligence competencies, and leadership courage.
