ABSTRACT

This chapter focusses on the roles of leaders, managers and new employee. The common theme was twenty-one rules for a new century. The chapter takes those new rules and examines the evidence so far experienced about how crucial each rule will be to this new century. Organizations have always been very dependent on both customer and product, but for many years following the last world war, the US economy, in particular, was fortunate to have a very large market with much pent-up demand and very few global competitors. Responses to problem issues are not grounded in denial but instead emerge out of an appreciation of what in the organization is worthy of care and concern. Professional workers of the future must at least know why they are working, what their own goals are, and how to develop the skills to accomplish their goals. This starts the process of clarifying ambiguity and thus helping the organization.
