ABSTRACT

At the end of the 1990s, many writers were attempting to forecast what good management practices might look like in the coming century. Now that we are fully into that new century it is clear that few, if any, of us could have predicted the dramatic events of this new 100-year cycle. The collapse of the high-tech market, the horrible events of September 11, 2001, with the wide array of violent repercussions, including a war in Iraq and much more, rocked the world very deeply. The impact of this new century’s birth trauma will be felt for many decades. So what is the effect on organizational life and what can be offered as both hope and advice? That is the special focus of this chapter.
