ABSTRACT
HCI is also defined in terms of the cognitive psychology and computer science orientation of research in the ACM Special Interest Group on Computer-Human Interaction (CHI) by CHI
researchers themselves. By contrast, in this essay HCI is extended to include related work in MIS and in human factors and ergonomics (HF&E) that is not necessarily focused on cognitive or computer science.
