ABSTRACT

MARTIAL ARTISTS Martial artists are persons who organize significant elements of their identity around the practice of structured martial systems, armed or unarmed, for sport, self-defense, or mental discipline. This definition excludes casual participants: children whose parents enroll them in martial arts classes, persons who have taken a course in street awareness or rape prevention, and devotees of “boxercise,” for example.
