ABSTRACT

During an episode of the popular television series Mad Men (“The Gold Violin,” Episode 7, Season 2, AMC Network) set in the early 1960s, an advertising executive and his wife (the characters Don and Betty Draper) have a picnic on a pristine lawn in an idyllic park environment. At the conclusion of the picnic, the characters discard a drink container, shake off the trash from their picnic rug, and walk back to their car, letting the litter blow away in the breeze.
